FOCUS ON THE RIGHT HAND

FOCUS ON THE LEFT HAND

ORNAMENTATION EXERCISES

Honestly, these exercises can either be extremely helpful or absolutely worthless.  Regardless of the focus, their purpose is to help translate all the amazing potential in your brain into attainable possibilities for your hands and fingers.

Remember that speed alone is meaningless.  The passion has to be there, the accuracy and knowledge have to be there, but speed is just an 'extra.'

Often you'll find that the best exercises come from difficult passages in pieces that you are trying to learn.

If you would like to play along with me but your oud is in a different tuning, think about looking into Transcribe! and the Amazing Slow Downer.  They can change the pitch of a sound file or CD track without changing the speed and vice versa.

Great for learning things by ear, especially old Turkish recordings that are out of pitch, taksim you'd like to slow down, etc.

I highly recommend either of these programs.
